Limited was formed in 2002 from Thomson & King Ltd and, before that, von Sturmer Group Ltd. Von Sturmer
Group comprised the offices trading as Thomson and King (Paihia and Kerikeri), Reyburn & Bryant (Whangarei
and Dargaville) and Cowan & Holmes (Greymouth). The Group was formed in 1990 from an existing partnership
of Registered Land Surveyors. At that time the Group was in the process of purchasing the Greymouth business
but prior to this the partnership was established in 1987 from the Bay of Islands practice of D.B. von
Sturmer and Associates. The partnership expanded its base in 1988 by purchasing the well known Whangarei
practice of Reyburn & Bryant.
In 1998 the decision was made to split the Bay of Islands offices
from the remainder of the Group and in 2001 wheels turned a full circle with the purchase of D B von
Sturmer and Associates Kaitaia office followed, in 2002, by the split of Thomson & King.
Chris
Williams and Brett King formed Survey & Planning Solutions Limited (trading as Williams and King in the
Bay of Islands, and von Sturmers in Kaitaia and the Far North). The company currently (2010) has a work
force of 16, which includes one registered professional and licensed cadastral surveyors, one licensed
cadastral surveyor, two graduate surveyors, one planner, five survey technicians, two surveyor's assistants,
one draughtsperson and two support staff. The directors and senior staff have a wide range of experience
in surveying, construction, computerisation and management, both in New Zeraland and overseas.
The
offices in Kaitaia, Kerikeri and Paihia are committed to modern survey, planning and management practices
which includes modern GPS equipment, computer aided field data capture, calculations and calculations
and plan presentation using Leica Systems LISCAD software suite. Brett King is the company's computer
expert who has written commercial survey programmes including King Software's Turbosurv.
